Swiss craft and construction — a pillar of the macroeconomy — face a dual crisis: a severe demographic transition and an unsustainable administrative burden. This note examines the systemic integration of artificial intelligence and digital ecosystems into the tradesman's workflow, conceptualised as a « phygital » symbiosis. Drawing on data on administrative overload, burnout and the construction-project lifecycle, it shows how generative AI and LLMs can reclaim productive time, improve well-being, and foster a continuous relationship with a digitally native clientele.
1. Macroeconomic and human context
The Swiss economy is structurally anchored by SMEs: 99.7% of market firms, about two-thirds of jobs (FSO/STATENT). The modern tradesman faces three systemic pressures. The bureaucratic crisis: admin has become the main bottleneck — a firm spends on average ~27.7 h/month (CCIG), and bureaucracy costs the economy ~CHF 30 billion/year (economiesuisse · BSS/ifo, 2025).
